FAQ

Common questions

Everything you need to know before volunteering with Empower Baseball in Barahona.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

Not at all for most roles. Spanish is helpful for in-person trips and tutoring, but many volunteers contribute remotely in English. Our local staff — Ulises, Bernarda, and Rosa — help bridge communication gaps.

How much time do I need to commit?

It depends on the role. Remote roles like marketing or grant writing may only require a few flexible hours each week. In-person trips are usually 1–2 weeks.

Is this a paid position?

All US-based roles are volunteer. Our Dominican staff are paid as funding allows, and we hope to expand paid opportunities on the ground as the organization grows.

Can I visit Barahona even if I'm not a coach or tutor?

Absolutely. Photographers, videographers, coordinators, and supporters are all welcome. If you care about the mission, we'll help create a meaningful experience.

Who will I be working with?

You'll work directly with Brian for onboarding and coordination, alongside our Dominican leadership team including Ulises, Bernarda, and Rosa.

What if I don't see a role that fits my skills?

Select “Other” in the application and tell us what you bring. We're a small organization with a lot of needs — if you're passionate about the mission, there's probably a place for you.
